Woodland Field
Update

Good Morning

As of right now the field will close on Nov. 30, 2009. We have met with the Mayor, and the City Manager, last week. We are scheduled to do demo and sound measurement flights on Dec. 5, 2009. These flights will be conducted with a flight pattern to the east, over the C/L area. The mayor, Forrest, the pilots and reps from the home owners will be present. They will fly a jet and a large one third scale aircraft. If that all goes well, then we will reverse the field, until we can get relocated to a new site. The current C/L area will be maintained, and will be available for contests. When we hold a contest, the R/C flying will be shut down for the days we have a contest. We will put in a temp. circle out by the road, and run water to it for keeping the grass watered. I will require a fair amount of work to make the changes, but we are out of options at this point. We are also looking at a couple of other alternate sites. Our man focus is still on the site west of the landfill. Con Agra, who owns the property has not responded back to offers that have been made on the property. If we have any new news, I will let you know.

Regards, Doug.

Lessons with Bill Osborne

This is what Bill loved to do on a typical weekend at the field. Teaching kids fly model airplane was his passion in life. There is know one I admire more and I miss him dearly.

14 years ago, WAM Chili Day 1996

This was the first control line contest I ever attended. This contest brought me back into the hobby since my childhood days. At the time, I did not know anyone in this video, if you recognize yourself back then, make no comment to this video clip on Youtube.

10 years ago, WAM Fund Day 1998

FEATURE OF THE MONTH
A short film by director/film-maker, Uncle Jimby Aron was first debuted at VSC 2008 as a tribute to Shareen Fancher. Heretofore lost footage of Shareen Fancher, her big black Lincoln and a disturbing encounter with Ted's Nobler....or the sound of one Nobler smooshing.

My name is Heman Lee. I met Bill Osborne in 1997 and was amazed in his efforts to mentor the next generation in this great hobby. This web site is dedicated to Bill Osborne, who founded the Bill Osborne Model Airplane Flying Field in Alameda, Bill designed this model as a trainer for his youth modeling program. He has allowed me to share this Platter design with all of you on the Internet.  I would appreciate any Platter stories and picture you have. Please Email or send them to me so I can share them with others on the internet.

Bill passes away in 2003 and I hope to honor his legancy with this web page.
